Air compressors

Hey, my name is Ryan and I'm a student at Edinburgh Napier University and I have been given a project to design the moving parts of a small air compressor to be used with and air brush. Mainly focusing on the crank, piston, connecting rod and possible the gudgeon pin,

my question is basicly about how these parts work together, i dont really know much about air compressors and finding info on how they work has brought me here, any help and info on these part (or anything about air compressors) would be really helpful
