why dose the compressor not kick on unless i press the reset button

after each cycle the pressure drops to the point where it should kick on but it will not unless i press the reset button. the motor is a 5 hp , compressor is a 2 stage with 100 gallon tank .the reset button is on the power suply box power comes through the box to the pressur control switch to the motor

It sounds like there is a fault in the circuit that kicks out the on board circuit breaker.

If the compressor reaches cut out pressure OK, but the fault occurs when the pressure in the tank has dropped to the cut in pressure level, I would look to the pressure switch first as the possible culprit.

Bill

My compressor trips the prv and wont turn off
by: Anonymous

i have a 60 gallon air compressor that will build up just fine. shut off. then build back up when the pressure gets low again. About the third time it builds back up it trips the prv and when i go to turn it off it keeps running. i have to unplug it and push the reset button before plugging it back in or it just keeps running.

HOW DOES STARTER WORK 0N 2PHASE

by DANNY

A-B CONPRESSAR

Bill says...

Danny, consider a starter as a fast-discharge battery.

Depending on the motor's amperage draw, the motor may pull more amps than the circuit has available, to get the motor going.

If too many amps are pulled, either the breaker pops, or the compressor motor may undergo damage.

What the starter does is give the motor a "goose" of fast power to get it going, so the start process does not overload the circuit. At the same time, it's discharged, and rebuilds it's power as the compressor is running, so it's got a full charge for next start.

Cheers,

Bill
