Compressor won't auto refill correctly

by Josh
(Honolulu, HI, USA)

At the start of the day with pressure at 0 psi, the compressor will start up fine and fill the tank to 150 psi. As air is used and drawn down, the compressor will kick on to refill but not at full power. The motor "lags". If I let all the air out and start from 0 psi, the motor kicks on and refills just fine.

Why won't it auto refill at around 100 psi like it should?

I suspect, Josh, that your unloader valve is not working.

Please check that out (see the Unloader Valve page) and comment here if that doesn't do it.

Bill

tanabe - unloader valve

what happen to my air compressor if fail to unload

The unloading process lessens the start up load on the motor, and allows the motor too start.

If the unloader valve doesn't unload, if there is air trapped over the piston, likely when your air compressor goes to start, it will blow breakers or fuses.

You might want to read the page of information on unloader valves linked from the valve or site map pages.

Bill

Bill says...

Hi Paul.

It's not likely your unloader valve that's the problem. It is likely that it is your check valve.

Here's what you need to know about leaking check valves.

Bill
