air compressor quick couplers - what type to get

My local Home Depot has three clases of couplers: Industrial, automotive and universal. They are color coded with different colored tape. What are the differences (particulary automotive)? The one thing I noticed is that the industrial male fitting can be pushed into its coupler and the automotive coupler knurled ring must be pulled back and then the male part inserted.

You will not likely get a top quality coupler / connector at any big box store.

Regardless of the type of coupler / connector you buy, it's only necessary that they attach to your air hose the way you want, and connect coupler to connector properly.

The most important thing is to pick one style, and stick with it, since couplers and connectors of the many different styles do not always interconnect properly.
