Air Compressor Motors and Pumps

by Rex Miller

Just put a new motor on my Sanborn Air Compressor and I am not sure what way the pump is suppose to turn. I have tried it both ways and it builds air both ways. Seems to run a little hotter running counter clockwise. Please advise.

Rex, don't know for sure. The motor shaft likely turns a crank that moves the piston up and down, therefore, as long as that is happening, the pump will generate compressed air.

Not having a firm answer, and knowing that heat is a nasty for any electro-mechanical system, I'd opt for the rotation that runs coolest if it were me. Anyone else have any ideas?

Cheers,

Bill
