Adjusting cut in and out on old Ingersoll Rand compressor

by Steve
(UK)

I have an old Ingersoll Rand Compressor, 150 litres and 2 stage, it has the unloader valve that works fine, however, I want to up the cut out to 150psi, currently 100 and up the cut in to be 120psi, currently as low as 60psi

This is the pressure switch arrangement

Steve, I took a look at the image(s), and couldn't specifically see one that was pressure switch related.

Normally, if the nuts in the pressure switch are not coated with sealant, that pressure switch is adjustable.

Some adjust the high pressure cut out and the low pressure cut in, others adjust just the cut in or cut out, and the range between the two is fixed.

Not knowing the original specs on the this venerable compressor, I would be a bit concerned about upping the cut out as it may not have been built for that pressure range.

Similarly, if you increase just the cut in, then your air compressor may cycle too often.

Tough call. Anyone else seen one like this?

Cheers,

Bill

Adjusting

Sorry Bill, just seen this reply, do you adjust the large centre nut to change the cut in/out pressure? The tank is safety tested to 320 pounds, normal working is 160 but it cuts out at 95.

Yup, that looks like a pressure switch to me too, Steve.

Good luck. Oh, and the incoming line should have some sort of strain relief on it.

If you're fairly confident the ac power is good going into it, then probably check start/run cap(s).

Info on checking caps in electrical issues section.

A continuous run, demand air compressor? I can't locate any details on this one, and you haven't provided any, Mark.

You don't indicate even if it's running.

A whole lot more info about the condition would help me and others try to help you.

Cheers,

Bill

It is a continuous run screw compressor.
engine is a white 4 cyl gas - runs fine.
oil in tank for air end smells slightly burnt.
have checked for obstructions in intake side of air end - ok.
fan blade at the end of the air end turns same as engine rpm.
builds maybe 5 psi?
thanks
