Ahhhh! Now I get it.

First off, it should be FRL! These devices are referred to as FRL's because that is the order in which they are installed.

First the filter, to remove free water and any airborne debris from the airstream, before it gets to the Regulator and the Lubricator.

Then you install the Regulator, as you want cleaner air going through it, but not lubricating oil.

Then you install the Lubricator last, as you want the lubricating oil free access to whatever it is you are lubricating.

Most modern air using components like air cylinders or air grippers (which are small air cylinders with mechanical "fingers") come from the factory lubricated for life. The manufacturer of that Gripper would have to confirm this to you.

You mention that your Gripper will work 24 hours a day, and that is important information. The other piece of important information missing, is what is the cycle rate?

If your gripper operates once a minute, then, perhaps the factory lubrication will suffice.

If it operates once every second, 24 hours a day, then heat will be generated by the gripper operation, and this heat may affect the factory lube over time.

In the latter case, I would be inclined to add a lubricator to the gripper air supply. I would install the lubricator as close to the valve that operates the gripper as possible, and I would certainly suggest you read the information on the Lubricator pages on this site for more information.

Cheers,

Bill
