If the motor is running, and the pump is working, you should be able to feel air being pulled into the intake port. Is this happening? Is any air huffing out?

Check that the unloader valve (usually beside the pressure switch) isn't bleeding air while the compressor is running.

Next thought, you have a gasket that has let go inside the pump.

Let us know what you find, OK?

Howdy. This symptom is not unique to your compressor.

The issues are frequently intake valves or gaskets.

Click on the "won't build pressure" link from the Troubleshooting page, and have a read of the pages linked from that one.

Cheers,

Bill

Cratsman 921153120 will not build pressure? Are reed valves the problem?

by james creedon

my compressor will not build pressure, i read about the reed valves on this site and i believe that is my problem.

they are made of metal and they are getting stuck between the two plates they are between. the gasket is also metal. even with new metal gasket and metal reeds they stil,l get stuck?

the metal gasket opening is larger then the reed opening so i even tried to remove gasket and it work for a bit but still wound up sticking? should i use some other kind of gasket like permatex and clean out the reed cavity after it dries? let me know not sure what to do?

Craftsman air compressor won't build pressure

by Kyle
(Hildale, Utah)

I just bought a used craftsman air compressor. I plugged it in at the shop and it built up to about 40 PSI pretty quickly so I thought everything was okay, when I got it home I realized it would only build to 40 PSI. I noticed that the entire air filter housing is missing. Could this be my problem?

Kyle, there are a number of issues that can cause any air compressor to run, and not to build pressure past a certain point. They are noted on the appropriate page in the troubleshooting section on the site map page.

Have a look, see if you can spot the issue, and if not, post a comment telling me what you saw (or didn't see) and we'll pursue the reason further.

Cheers,

Bill
