919.166442 Caftsman Compressor not holding air

by Cal

My compressor, given to me, Does not hold any air...motor is loud and running good...sounds like there is a huge leak under cover. What could be wrong? And what type screws are holding the covers 1/2's together? Thanks

Leaking
by: Bill

Even with the cover off and it shuts down you cannot tell where the leak is?

Feel around the pressure switch and the unloader valve and see if air is leaking out of there.

Certainly, if there is a leak loud enough to hear you should be able to see / feel it with close inspection, Cal.

compressor leaks

Thanks Bill I finally got the cover off and replaced the Graphite Head Gasket..still doing the same thing..Runs but no pressure...when I turn it off...sounds like a huge leak.. Could it be the gasket around the piston has failed ? Thanks again

Craftsman loud but running good

Don't know about the screws, Cal. They don't show up in any parts lists I found. I hope someone out there with one can identify that for you with a comment here.

Loud motors suggest a gasket failure.

A loud leak under the cover might be the intake valve has let go. You obviously need to get under the cover and have a look and hear when it's running to try and isolate the trouble source.
