Robert, the air line from the pump down to the tank has a check valve where the line enters the tank. If that check valve is blocked some how, that might be the reason.

I am afraid that your description of the air line isn't very clear. There are no air lines coming out of the motor. Out of the pump, yes, not the motor.

If the air pressure in the tank is zero, does that make any difference to the it starting?

Please try that, and post a comment here to let me know if that made any difference.

How do I get the housing cover off my craftsman 2 hp 12 Gal air compressor? It will not build up pressure

Hi JoAnn.... oh, those lovely plastic shrouds that compressor manufacturers use to cover all the items that compressor owners may have to get at to address issues. I hate 'em.

The short answer is, I don't know. There are a gazillion models and styles of air compressors. Somewhere on the shroud there has to be fasteners. Good luck in finding them.

Tell me about the symptoms of your air compressor not building pressure. No pressure at all, (zero PSI), builds to a certain pressure and won't go further... and so on. Look at the TROUBLESHOOTING page for tips on why air compressors won't build pressure.

Cheers,

Bill
