919.152932 compressor runs for five seconds and begins to slow down and then stop

i've had this craftsman 33 gal - 6 hp #919.152932 for about six years and never had an issues until now. I plugged it in a it ran for roughly 5-10 seconds give or take then the motor begins to to slow down and finally stop. I quickly unplugged it,waited for a minute or two and it did the same thing. I call Sears and they said the capacitor is bad,I need to replace them. Does that sound right?

capacitor?

Before you replace that cap, look for loose connections to it, and test it. If the connections are good, and the cap tests bad, then replace it.

919.152932 capacitor
by: Bill

That's certainly a likely prospect.

Make sure the intake filter is clean, see the tank check valve page about what it is, and after dumping all the air from the tank remove and clean that component.

Otherwise, you've got a valve problem or a motor related problem on your 919.152932 most likely, and the motor problem would likely be the run capacitor.

Take their advice and replace yours.
