919.152921 New Piston And Sleeve Now Trips Breaker At 100 PSI

I have a 4 hp 25 gallon Craftsman that is about 20 years old. I just replaced the piston and sleeve, and it purrs like a kitten and quickly builds to around 75% shutoff load capacity. At that point it shuts off by tripping the 20amp breaker in the service panel. I have to release pressure manually before it will run again. I am hesitant to spend more money on it but I think it would be applicable to try a new check valve. A new one is only $20. I have $75 in the new piston kit so far. Any help is appreciated.

Definitely try cleaning (first) or replacing (if cleaning doesn't work) the check valve.

It seems fairly common that a bad piston covers up a check valve problem, or perhaps they get clogged from crud from the piston change.

Anyway, be sure the tube from the head to check valve is clear before reassembly.
