5hp builds 15psi and belt starts squeeling

put new compressor from harbor freight and new check valve. does same as before gets to about 15 psi and belt starts to squeel like it locks up

Hi Jim... it would be good to know what is squealing. I'm going to guess it's the belt slipping in the pump sheave?

What causes this to happen is that the sheave is being slowed or stopped by load, and the belt continues to try to drive the sheave at the right speed. Belt squealing and burning is the result.

You say you have installed a new compressor? If it is installed without binding of the pump sheave, then, without actually seeing the compressor and troubleshooting it in person, I'm stumped as to why you would have the same problem with a new pump assembly.

Anyone else have any ideas for Jim?
