5hp 230 volt single phase magnetic starter does NOTHING when starting

has magnetic starters. she does NOTHING when turned on. No click, no hum nothing.

Im ASSUMING pressure switch and other safties working because when turned on I can trace power all the way to the back of the motor terminals on both lines.

So motor itself is getting power. No air in tank and motor spins freely and motor has never tripped. reset button is ok too as it seems. thanks so much.

Todd, my first thought was that the pressure switch wasn't tripping and no power was getting to the starters. You have indicated that you can find power to and from the switch, so the pressure switch has tripped on low pressure cut in.

If visitors know much (anything) about magnetic starters, please post.

Todd, if this was mine, I'd be taking the compressor to a motor shop for checking.

Good luck, and I hope someone else can provide advice.

Bill

Simple check

Check ur wiring from your main panel to the sub panel. Make sure ur breaker is installed on you main panel so that it gets power from both 120volt sides. I had the same issue and noted that my breaker at main panel was one slot too low. Since it's alternating currents if you have you 240 volt alternating at the same time the power has no way to get back to the panel. hope this helps

Nothing ??

quote ..."has magnetic starters. she does NOTHING when turned on. No click, no hum nothing..."

you mean nothing at all?
Does the starter makes a big clack noise when engaging the starter? that will mean it is operating.

If the starter makes no noise, is not operating and you DON'T have power on the motor. period.

If it is doing NOTHING there is something in the operation of the circuit that is NOT right.

The starter coil is feed though a series of devices, pressure switch, oil level safety switch, overload trip if any of those is open it will do NOTHING.

Magnetic starters usually have a way to push on contacts manually, though some hole top of starter; push the contacts manually to make the motor start for 1 or 2 seconds ONLY, if motor starts then the problem is on the other devices that are in series with the starter coil.

Get the schematics.

Recheck electric, and check starter heaters.
if you have 230 volts at motor terminals take motor to repair shop as overload on motor or winding has failed.
