47065 not run more than 1 or 2 minutes before tripping

by Jeremy

My 47065 will run for about a minute or two and then shut off. If I wait and then press the black (circuit breaker?) button it will run again for another minute or two. If I bypass the "circuit breaker" it will continue running to 120PSI as it's supposed to. I have checked the amperage draw while doing this and it's near 17 amps that the unit is drawing. The unit is rated for 14.6 amps continuous. Off the top of my head I'm guessing the brushes in the motor need replacing. Does this sound correct to you? And if so, are the brushes easily replaceable on this motor. Any idea what size and spec brushes I need and where I can find them? Thanks.

According to the manual I have the 47065 is powered by a 3 HP Working / 120 Volt / 60 Hz / Single Phase / 12 Amp motor.

Before I started tearing down the motor to check brushes, assuming your motor actually has them, it were my compressor I'd be checking both the start and run capacitors first. See the page on this site about how to do that.
