30 gallon husky vt631505aj drawing too many amps

I have a 30 gallon husky vt631505aj compressor with rating on the compressor of 120v/15amp and has a 2hp motor.

I have a amp draw meter plugged in line and it draws about 8-9 amps starting and when it gets to the shut off pressure of 125 PSI the amps are close to 20amps. When it shuts off it pops a 20amp breaker.

What steps can I take to fix this?

Check your ground

Check your ground rod connection outside your
electrical panel, I have had issues with that.

I'd start by checking the caps on the motor.

If the drawings are any indication, it has both start and run caps.

There are tips on checking them here on this site.

If you don't want to get into it yourself, take it to a motor shop, if there's one around.

Let us know what you find.
