3 hp 20 gallon 230 volt Sears compressor won't start

by Joel Christman
(La Mesa, CA, USA)

My compreesor will not run. I've checked both hot lines and there is power. I've checked the pressure swith and even bypassed it. Nothing. The contacts in the motor are hot but it will not budge. No buzzing, no humming, nothing.
Thanks for your help
Joel

Joel, if the power supply is getting through the pressure switch, and then reaching the motor circuit, and nothing is happening, then something has to be blocking the power.

I suspect that your start capacitor is blown, and power cannot get through it.

See the page on this site for testing capacitors so you can check it out.

Was it the capacitor?

Cheers,

Bill
