25 gallon Sears compressor blows the the 15 amp breaker.

Will start up on a different circuit but causes the lights to dim more so than in the past. Seems to be drawing more current to start than in the past.

Does it blow the breaker every time it starts?

If it doesn't, and the tank fills to cut out pressure, watch and listen to make sure that the unloader valve cycles when the compressor shuts off. See the Unloader Valve page for more details.

If the breaker is popping almost every time the compressor starts, and it's starting at the cut in pressure level, and the unloader valve is working, I'd look to the start capacitor next.

Cheers,

Bill

Electric breaker kicks off whe I turn my compressor on

by Lalo Andrade
(Riverside Ca.)

I have an older Sears air compressor model MO-9062 that I used very little, reacently started to trip the electric breaker, could it be because the caps went out?

Thanks

Lalo, if you don't have a short in the pressure switch, and the power supply situation hasn't changed (more items using power from the same circuit or a too small extension cord), and if the pump is not overloading the motor due to a mechanical issue, then yup, could be the capacitor.

Cheers,

Bill

Dear visitor... it's very difficult to help you figure out what is going on with your air compressor, with so little info offered.

When does it trip breaker, on start up, on cut out, during fill up... and what do you do to try and restart it, and when you do, does it trip the breaker again?

Is yours a two cylinder compressor?

Thanks,

Bill

Flips 20 amp Breaker
by: John D

The compressor seems to be running fine, but it flips the breaker at 100psi. The cut-off is 150psi. The compressor gets too hot to touch. It is a sears Model 919.195413 25gal. Do you have any ideas. A friend checked the load on the motor and said it was too high, but does not kick the motor off reset switch

The reset switch is typically triggered by the motor overheating to the switch set level. If the breaker is tripping at 100 PSI, the motor may be laboring under the increasing load and pulling too many amps - this happening before the motor thermal switch trips - or it could be that the pressure switch itself is shorting out at 100 PSI.
