2 stage IR compressor leaking air

Ingersoll Rand 2-stage electric air compressors

Ingersoll Rand 2-stage electric air compressors

My compressor will build up to 130 PSI or the top setting and then all the air that has built up drains from the tank at the air filter inlet. What is the cause of that and how can I remedy it?

Hmmm, that's an interesting one, Bob.

The first thing I would do if this were my IR air compressor is dump all the air with the compressor off (good time to check the PRV function by using it to dump the compressed air, and then I would pull and check the tank check valve.

My guess is it is not closing tightly and allowing tank air to escape.

Once that's done, please advise results as a comment here. In other words, did this work?

Cheers,

Bill

ingersol rand compressor ~ ressure will not build much past 20-25 lbs

by m hardin
(nc)

the unit runs and air seems to be coming out but there is some type of a small spring valve on the outlet from the head that doesn't appear to be working right. pressure will not build much past 20-25 lbs

Is air bleeding out of this spring valve? If so, does it stop, or bleed all of the time?

M Hardin, there are so many models of IR compressors that I really have no visual clue about what spring valve you are talking about.

Any chance you could re-post with photos?

Thanks,

Bill

valve
by: Anonymous

the valve is a brass fitting right at the exit of the pipe from the head. i think it is some type of relief valve that is supposed to close as soon as the compressor starts running. air bleeds out continuously as long as it runs
thanks

Ingersoll rand 12.5 hp gas kohler engine will not come up to pressure

by Dwight
(Risingsun Ohio USA)

Compressor will not come up to pressure, I bought this compressor as is,, it runs good and builds some pressure,, On the receiver there is a discharge unloader valve that the guy I bought it from was missing with...It is the type the flips up I guess if you want to relieve pressure and flips to the side for the compressor to pressure up.. This valve screws in and has a jam nut on it.. He was turning this in or out,,,I'm not sure... So what I want to know is how to set or how far do I screw the valve in before I lock the jam nut.. Could that also be my problem with the compressor not coming up to pressure??

pressure

A bit more detail, please.

Is it configured as seen in ads from sellers of new machine? If so, then the valve at the center of the tank is the output and the valve at the bottom is a drain valve. PRV is up top near the pressure gauge.

Is the pressure going up and then suddenly dropping, with the engine going full speed?

Or does pressure go up and then just level off?

If none of that seems right for your machine, please start a new thread and post a picture of the thing, along with answers to the pressure questions.

no air from service valve on IR 375 portable

by Ben

IR 375 portable compressor

IR 375 portable compressor

IR 375 portable , seems as the compressor loads to around 60psi only at an idle, service valve does not open?

I increase the pressure by adjusting the regulator and unit stalls out to around 80psi and service valve still does not open, and engine stalls out.

If I open the valve just before the service valve and dump the pressure on the separator tank the engine rpm increases, does this indicates a pressure differential on the separator? Or what am I missing?

I have pictures attached of the air line set up, curious if this thing is plumes correctly.
