I found an non-pleated AC filter that many users, apparently, use to filter the air going to their computers.

With the info I gathered on this web site, I researched and purchased a 4-port pressure switch, a pressure relief valve, compressor oil, and the aforementioned air filter material, along with a new #14 3-C type SO electric cord.

Many thanks for the help...It's not much of a compressor, only 0.75 CFM, but it'll run my airbrush and fill up the tires on my car, so I'm happy....And it didn't cost much to rehabilitate.

Down the road, I plan to upgrade by adding a small port to the cylinder head to connect up the unloader valve.

Compressor intake filter
by: Bill

Yeah, one of the things I talk about on this site is that you DO want to have an intake filter as free air is inherently dirty.

The amount of air ingested by any air compressor is impressive, and even small amounts of debris can accumulate quickly.

Your idea (and mine too!) is spot on as far as I'm concerned. Cut a furnace filter to size, maybe layer it to get good filtration, and you should be good to go. Just be sure to check it from time to time to see how much dirt is loading up.

Another option is to visit your auto parts store and get a high flow intake filter (automotive type) from them, and cut that media to size as well.

Air Filter

Yes - It had some sort of spongy rubber thing which crumbled into nothingness. I suppose I could use an air filter from the house central air conditioning and cut to fit if that would provide sufficient air flow.

Compressor filter

Forrest, are you speaking of the intake filter for the compressor pump?

Many thanks for the info. The unit is so old that even Grainger has no information available, although I did find that the pump is actually made by Champion.

Any ideas as to what I could use for a cylinder head filter?

Need pressure switch
by: Bill

Please see the pages on pressure switches to understand how they work and the various methods of connecting them.

You can use any pressure switch with the right voltage, pressure range and plumbing since you are, essentially, building your own compressor by marrying a tank with a pump.

As to oil, this too is covered on the pages of this site about air compressor oil. This pump holds 6 oz of compressor oil.

Technical Specs

Item Air Compressor Pump HP 1/4, 1/3, 1/2 Free Air CFM @ Max. Pressure 0.75 Oil Capacity 6 oz. Number of Cylinders 1 Pump RPM 470, 610, 935

Rotation CCW Groove Section A Groove Quantity 1 Sheave Size @ 1725 RPM 2-1/2", 3-1/4", 4-7/8" Valve Material Swedish Steel Valve Type Reed
