1982 Speedaire 2Z498 stationary air compressor Won't build pressure

I have a 1982 Speedaire 2Z498 stationary air compressor. I noticed on the very top of the head there is an open hole about 1/2 dia when I put my finger over the hole it builds air. It looks as if something is missing but I don't have any breakdown photos of the head. Do you have any ideas? Thanks Ken

Ken, are you saying that air pressure won't rise in the tank unless you block that hole?

Where is the line that runs from the compressor head into the tank to allow compressed air to flow into the tank while the compressor is running? Is there one? It may be that the "hole" you refer to is where the line should be installed.

Can't be sure though. Maybe you could send in a photo so we can see what you are?
