Harbor freight compressor 125 psi air compressor pops overload

2-1/2 hp gallon air compressor used for 1/2 hour out of the box. Put the oil in as required. Not abused at all.

Now the compressor pops the overload switch as soon as it is turned on.

It is not the circuit because it pops both 15 and 20 amps circuits and blows the GUI on the circuit. my next step is to throw it in the garbage unless you folks have another idea.

I can't hear the banging noise from here, Bob, though I am trying real hard. Might be my age. :-)

If the noise is coming from the pump, then it's a mechanical pump issue. If it is from the motor, then a motor rebuild is in order.

I'd go with the pump being the issue as if it were the motor mechanically failing, I would think that it would overheat.

Is this one oil lubed? If so, do you have the oil sump filled to the correct level?

Bill

HR m# 67847 tries to start but trips reset

Have a HF model # 67847. When the compressor tries to start, it pumps a few time, but sets of the reset switch.

After waiting, if I try to start again, but press the plunger on the start switch (part #3) on the manual parts list) it will start.

Once started, the compressor works fine until the tank reaches time to refill, and the reset switch goes off again.

I tried to order a starter switch, but HF says part not available. Any suggestions?
