Brian, extending my usual caveat, I am not an electrician :-), your compressor definitely has an electrical problem.

The white wire is the return. That it has melted suggests to me that you have a short to ground in your switch. Didn't the fuse or breaker pop?

Regardless, if you aren't comfortable with working with electrical power, you need to take your compressor to a repair depot.

If you are OK with working with electricity, then drag out your multi-meter, replace the wire or switch, and start diagnosing where the short lies.

Good luck. Keep us posted.

The first step is to check with Grainger. They will advise.

Second step, post your request here... and you have just done that.

Air compressor value
by: Mel

Not sure if this helps, but I bought the same model as yours about two months ago for $725. I was told that it is about 15 years old. Mine is in near pefect condition and came with a pressure regulator/dryer/filter and few hundred feet of hose.

I suppose that I could have got it for slightly cheaper. The guy was willing to dicker, but the regulator and hoses made the deal worthwhile for me.

I've heard both good and bad about Daytons. The previous owner told me that parts for Daytons are available, but they're not easy to find. Mine seems to be working fine so far. No compliants.

Christoforos, if you haven't done so, you can email Grainger for information, as Speedaire is their house brand.

Otherwise, I sure hope someone out there can provide this info for you.

Cheers,

Bill
