Compressor pulley turn direction
by: Mike G

In one of your replies, you commented that as you look at the sheaves, the pulley should go counter clockwise. I am building a compressor using a Dayton 1z945b pump. I am not sure what you meant by the sheaves, but am assuming you are referring to looking at the pump from the air cylinder side. So if that is correct, then looking at the pump from the pulley side, the pulley should go clockwise. Is that right?

Speedaire info
by: Buster

Hey John, this is a Speedaire compressor, but it is actually built by Champion. Go to Grainger's website and type in 1Z945 and then hit search and it will give you some info, I had one of these and it was built in 1972, but but the parts were the same. Also try 2Z050, same pump, some different parts, rated at 2 HP. The direction of rotation is counter clockwise looking at the sheave, should push air back over the cylinders for cooling, like a fan. I tried to attach some pictures, but it would not let me. I have the instruction sheet for the one I had, was on a wheelbarrow unit. I could email it or fax it. I hope this helps you find what you need to know.

Rick, if Grainger can't get parts, then ask them where they get their compressors serviced under warranty, and check with those folks.

I've posted your request for others to see.

Why not try to find a used one for parts? You can post a request on the Buy/Sell page if you wish.

Cheers,

Bill

speedaire 5Z628B flywheel problem

by mike
(florida)

I have a speedaire 5Z628B 2 air compressor. The pump is a 5Z641

The flywheel sits on a tapered aluminum spacer that sits on the pump shaft.

I cannot find this spacer or a part number for it. And Campbell Hausfeld does not make it anymore.

Does know if there is a fix for this?

dragging?
by: Doug in s.d.ca

If you can oil it, you'd see an oil cup cover facing up. Unlikely.

If the motor is actually seizing, most likely the bearings can be replaced, cheap.

More likely you have a belt tension or wear problem.
