Hi Troy:

If it's gas engine related, I'm sorry, but I have no idea. My experience has been with electrically powered air compressors.

I ask folks out there who run gas powered units, can you help Troy out with his compressor issue. Thanks very much.

Bill

Ridgid Mobile Air electric mini wheel barrow compressor. It operates but very slowly...

Mobile Air electric mini wheel barrow compressor. It operates but very slowly and will not build pressure. Air is pumping out the release valve on the top of the pump head and the exhast

When you say it operates very slowly, are you saying that the electric motor is lugging, or that the compressor is running, but air pressure is coming up too slowly.

What do you mean by air coming out of the exhaust? What exhaust?

Rigid wheel barrow compressor stalling out on pressure

by chuck
(FLORIDA)

Hello, the engine on this unit runs fine without the belt on the compressor.

With the belt on it would stall out within 15 seconds or so.

I have taken the unloader valve apart and everything looks fine but still stalls out. Can someone help with this please, i am a small engine mechanic not a compresser mechanic.

Thank You in advance,
Chuck

Well, I'm not a compressor mechanic either, Chuck.

So the compressor starts OK, but after 15 seconds the motor stops... and then what, the breaker pops?

With the compressor off and the belt on, open the line from the top of the cylinder head that runs down to the tank. Start the compressor. Is air coming out of that port?

If air is coming out of that port, is the compressor slowing or stalling?

If not, then it's the load buildup from the tank back that might be stalling your compressor.

Next, check the check valve to make sure that it's opening and closing OK. Blow through it. Air should only flow one way.

Put the line back on and start the compressor again. If it's still lugging or stalling, then you may have a power train issue (mechanical failure or worn out motor), or perhaps another device is draining the power supply to the compressor and it's not getting enough electricity to build enough force to overcome the load.

Some things to look at anyway. Other comments or suggestions are welcome.

Cheers,

Bill

a ridgid double stack 5 gallon air compressor
by: Anonymous

My air compressor builds up air like it should but when I put the hose into the outlet the pressure drops to zero and then will build up and I can use the gun a couple times but then drops right back to zero, does anyone have a suggestions on this

If, when you turn on an air tool, the regulator gauge drops right back to zero right away, that suggests to me that it is your regulator that may be the problem.

That, or the demand of the air tool so far exceeds the capacity of the compressor and lines that it cannot get air to the tool fast enough.

i have a ridgid gp90135 wheelbarrow compresser. i took apart the throttle underloader to clean and inspect. now im having trouble adjusting it. i understand some what how it works.when pressure builds the check ball opens the over pressure vale and the air goes out. when pressure is low the ball pushes the other way pushing on the knob to allow air in tank. i cant adjust it to push the knob to go back and forth opening and closind at different pressure points. the is a lot of different adjust points. so how do i adjust it right
