compressor brushes spark

porter cable 150psi compressor brushes spark and wear away with in minutes of new ones being installed. terriable smell like burnt wires.

i was given a porter cable compressor that needed new brushes. i purchased the brushes from a local dealer and installed them.

when the compressor reaches around 40 psi the motor starts to lag.

i can see the sparks from the brushes as the motor runs. some smoke and a terriable smell as well. after about 2 or 3 minutes the brushes are worn down to a nub.

I hope someone with electric motor rebuilding skills reads this and responds. I know rebuilding motors is a viable way to fix a failing electric compressor motor, yet in so doing, I would be taking mine to a shop.

Good luck.

Bill

I had the same problem w/ my C2005. Except after I replaced the brushes and turned it on, it ran for a second then quit running all togather. The fuse is still good, so.... If anyone knows...? Thanks

how to get the water out of your compressor

I have a porter cable jetstream 135 psi 4.5 hp peak 15 gallon and it has water inside the tank what can I do to take that out or is that normal?

Water in the compressor tank is generated by the compressing of air.

You should drain the tank regularly to remove the water or you are speeding up the corrosion of the compressor tank.

See the site map page, under category Tanks, for more info.

Porter Cable compressor size versus spray gun size

by Bob H
(Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island)

I have a 6 gal,150 psi Porter Cable pancake compressor. No hp stated. power output of 2.6 scfm @ 90 psi. I am looking at a porter cable hvlp spray gun rated at 3.6 cfm @ 40 psi. Could I use this or am i stuck with purchasing an LVLP spray gun

The hunt continues for updated information about compressor outflow capacity versus outflow pressure levels.

On the site map page, under the CFM section, see the page on Calculating CFM for guidance.

Hi John. Sorry mate, if the air is blowing out the intake port, you, at least, have a bum intake valve that will need fixing.

This will mean tearing down the pump to replace the valve, if you can find one. You might as well change the high pressure valve too (they may be on the same replacement plate).

Cheers,

Bill
