In the absence of a large oil spill on the floor under your air compressor, then the only place the oil can be going is into your tank.

Drained your tank lately?

I suspect that you will find the tank has lots of lube oil in it, and that's not good either for the downstream air tools or the ground where you drain the tank onto.

From what you have written, I suspect that your cylinder seals are worn to the point where lots of oil (there is always a bit but not lots) is wicking from the sump into the compression chamber and then into your tank.

You probably need a rebuild kit, if CP can get you one. How about commenting and letting us know what drained out of your air tank when you opened the drain valve?

Cheers,

Bill

I forgot to put the oil in?

by erik
(erie pa)

I forgot to put the oil in my central pneumatic compressor

What parts need replaced?

It ran fine for about 15 min then died first time I used it.

Thanks
_______________
Erik, did you add the compressor lubricating oil?

Are you saying that the compressor will not start now?

When running it without the compressor oil I suspect you overheated the compressor, and maybe did some damage, yet when the compressor cooled down, and was properly lubed, it may have survived the ordeal.

I need more information about the condition of your compressor now, and what happens when you plug it in or turn it on.

Please add info as a comment here.

Cheers,

Bill

Model 93786 - air coming out of oil filler vent?

Central Pneumatic compressor Model 93786 compressor air coming out of oil filler vent

I have had this unit for 3 years and so far it has blown one heah gasket and now it is blowing air out the oil vent filler plug. the air pressure goes down so I cant leave it turned on anymore. What is the fix for this problem - new rings?
________________
Curtis, if you haven't overfilled the oil, then yes, I would surmise that the piston rings are allowing bypass, and pressurizing the sump.

If the oil level in the sump is high, the pressurized sump could force oil out of the sump, up the fill tube, and out the oil fill cap vent hole.

So, maybe it is time to tear it down and replace the piston seal, maybe the valve plate and the pump head gaskets?

For the benefit of others viewing this post, I have uploaded a photo of twin cylinders purported to be from a Central Pneumatics compressor model 97386.

Cheers,

Bill

need to replace the exhaust valve plate for CP model 90234

by Ding
(salem oregon)

Is there any place or cross reference replacement piece from another air compressor for a exhaust valve plate for a CP model 90234 that will fit or replace the broken part.

Ding, none that I know of. Harbor Freight owns the Central Pneumatic brand, and they do not show your air compressor as current.

The manual for this compressor is available from the Harbor Freight Air Compressor page on this site, and it shows the plate in question.

Options - make your own out of shim stock material available from an auto parts store using the existing plate as a template.

Maybe someone else has a parts supply and will post here.

Cheers,

Bill
