Husky 30 gallon compressor over pressurizes until it blows valve open

by Moose

I have a Husky 30 gallon compressor, when I turn on it compresses air past where I have the regulator switch. It doesn't stop compressing until the overflow valve blows open to let the air out. Is this the pressure switch?

Yup, Moose. Based on the symptoms, I'm 99% sure you need a new one.

Chris, regardless of your satisfaction level with the product, there are only a few reasons why an air compressor runs, but won't build pressure.

From the TROUBLESHOOTING page, please click the link to "will not build pressure" and have a read of the info there.

Then, if you wish to chase down your compressor problem, post here as a comment again telling me what you've been able to diagnose from the tips given.

Cheers,

Bill

husky h1826f will not build past 80 psi husky h1826f

1.8hp husky 155psi max compressor. In excellent shape like new.

I started with the reeds, valves and replaced that hole plate. Still no luck.

I have a good power supply.

I took apart check valve and it works fine, no leaks and the gaskets look new.

I've tried everything on your suggestions.

A week ago it would build no problem. Then the motor made a sound and won't go above 70, I did all suggestions and now it won't go above 80. I'm confused. Any help??

Jacob, that the pump underwent a "sound change" might be the clue. This typically happens when a gasket in the pump lets go at a certain pressure, leaking a bit as the pressure builds, and then more as the pressure gets higher.

That you changed the valve plate was a good call, but I wonder, did you replace the gaskets when you did that?

If not, that most likely is still the issue.
