Rolair "Bull" slow to start some times...

by Jody Jones

I have a Rolair "Bull" series portable compressor that I Use out on construction jobs.

It has been slow to start or restart on occasions.

Enough that I replaced it with a Dewalt one.

I would like to get it fixed to have as a backup.Do you think it is the capacitor and how can you test it?Thanks. Jody

If you are using an extension cord, make sure it is a heavy gauge, or don't use one at all.

Could be the cap. See the page on this site about testing the cap for help in how to do that.

Porter Cable compressor will not start

by Mrgomez312

My compressor will not start at all. I replaced the brushes on my C2005 and after reassembly, ran for a sec and then died.

Mr Gomez, you don't indicate the brand. I did a search and found that C2005 is a Porter Cable number, a fairly small, 6-Gallon Portable Electric Air Compressor.

Assuming your air compressor is allowing power through the switch to the motor circuit, and since you just replaced the brushes, is it possible there is a problem with the motor reassembly? That I cannot tell you from here.

Check the circuit to make sure there is power to the motor past the pressure switch, and also that power is getting through the capacitor as well. Let us know what you found as a comment here, OK?

Thanks,

Bill
