Craftsman 5 Gallon Horizontal Air Compressor will not build pressure
by Stan Griner
I own a Craftsman 5 Gallon Dolly Mounted Horizontal Air Compressor, Model# 16636, 125 Max Tank PSI, Oil-lubricated pump. The compressor will not build pressure and the motor will run continiously. Initially I found it would build to about 20 PSI but now it will not even reach that high. I do not find any air leaks around the tank fittings. what might be wrong? Is this something I can repair?
Stan, I suspect either an intake valve problem or a gasket problem.

Craftsman 60 gal won't build more than 40 psi
I have 60 gal Craftsman compressor with 6.5 hp motor. It runs fine but the pressure will not build past 40 psi. No leaks anywhere. I did notice that there was a difference in the exhaust mufflers from one side to the other. If I rebuild the pistons/gaskets/sleeves will this fix the problem?
Geoff, rebuilding the pistons/gaskets/sleeves might resolve the problem.
Or, it might be as simple as a leaking intake valve or a gasket failure.
On the Troubleshoot / Compressor won't build pressure page is a link to a page with all of the common reasons why a compressor won't build pressure listed. Worth reading, if you haven't doe so.
