Unloader tube leaking

Hey Bill, I've an old compressor which has been kept going with a quick service- it's a Gianesi Edilio Zavaterello- I have no idea what it's background is! But quick question re. the unloadeder tube- I read your response re. the leaking pressure switch and highlighting that it's not actually the pressure switch!

So far I believe a lot of air is being leaked via the unloader tube going into the pressure switch box. I believe the check valve is fine as leaking stops as soon as the compressor is turned off?

It only leaks while the compressor is on, and tails off into nothing when turned off- I recently replaced my unloader tube and there was a small bearing & spring sandwhiched between the tube and connector on the switch side- I couldn't re-fit the bearing with my new tube, but I wouldn't have thought this would be the cause for leaking? If so, is there any specific bearing to buy, and do you know where I may be able to get one?

Many thanks, your work is much appreciated!!

Seth

What you describe in your unloader tube is a ball check that opens with pressure and closes in the absence of pressure.

By removing the ball you've lost the ability of the valve to close off air.

If you can't find the correct ball size, then you will need to change the unloader valve. If you can't locate the right one for your compressor, visit a repair shop to buy a different brand and ask how to integrate it into your system.

Good luck.

Bill

Compressor has problem
by: Anonymous

We have a compressor that has two problems the engine is constantly loaded to maximum, and the life of compressor valves is short. It is suggested to reduce the lift on the compressor valves. Would this help???
Would this add to the problem??

Probably better if you went to the ASK page and started a new thread as this post kinds of takes us off topic. Make sure you include make, model, year and overall use level of your air compressor.

Air continuously unloading through unloader valve After 3 Kg pressure. Elgi make compressor
Unloader valve is actuated by solenoid valve(220V AC)

Hi Sachin:

Even solenoid operated unloader valves are designed to open when the pressure in the system reaches the high pressure cut out level.

This allows the pressure trapped over the piston(s) to escape.

If air continues to escape after a few seconds, you need to look on the Check Valve page on this website for why.

Cheers,

Bill
