Speedaire Model 3Z427 max air pressure?

by Craig

I think I have a Speedaire Model 3Z427 compressor. It is identical to one I looked up on the internet.

It has a single piston pump and a 1/2 HP motor. It looks to be about a 15 gallon tank.

It shuts off at 50lbs of pressure and I need to know how much higher I can adjust it to go. I would like to get at least 100lbs out of it.

Can you tell me what the proper working air pressure is?

Craig, I don't have the exact specs on your Speedaire 3Z427, yet other users have reported a typical cut in pressure of 70 PSI and a cut out pressure at 110 PSI, so you should be good with that pressure range on yours.

I wonder why the air compressor is shutting off at 50 PSI when cut out should be around 110 PSI?

I would suspect a failed pressure switch if this were my air compressor. If you did not as yet do so, in the absence of any other symptoms, I suggest it is time to replace the pressure switch,

Cheers,

Bill

Looking for intake filters - see photos?

See attached for pictures of the air filter I’m looking for, It is for a Dayton air compressor that Dayton or Grainger do not support
anymore and I was wondering if you had anything that would work.

3/8" x 2.5" x 1/2 or 1"
Thanks,

James, I don't sell compressor parts, though my advertisers sure do. I am happy to post this for you expecting a submission or two from folks that supply such things.

It were me, however, I'd take this filter to my local auto parts store, and find the closest match from an auto or truck intake filter, open it, and use the media in my Dayton Speedaire intake filter.

The purpose of the intake filter is, of course, to keep "bricks and mortar" that are flying through the air outside of the air compressor, from being sucked into the intake. Airborne debris, dust etc., can abrade surfaces as it is propelled through the compressor pump.

As far as I'm concerned, any media that is used to filter air intakes, and truck and auto intake filters immediately come to mind, will work in the intake filter of an air compressor.

Cheers,

Bill

Noisy 3Z176B Speedaire air compressor?

by Mario
(Quebec, Canada)

I have a 3 cyl speedaire model 3Z176B and it makes noise like there is no oil inside. But its full and also I have an air leak in the front of the above the hole where I empty the oil

Thanks

Mario, often a change in the sound an air compressor makes is a result of a gasket letting go inside the pump. Often that leads to a compressor that builds pressure to a certain pressure level, and then even though the compressor still runs, air pressure in the tank won't go past that level. Is your air compressor building pressure the same way it used to?

Another problem that causes a sound change is a failing intake or pressure valve.

Regarding this "air leak in the front of the above the hole where I empty the oil" do you mean that you are feeling air exiting the vent in the oil fill cap? If that is the case, your piston / cylinder seals are worn to the point where air is blowing by and into the sump. This could, also, be a reason for the sound change in your compressor.

Any of this close? Post a comment here and let me know, Okay?

Salut,

Bill

Try googling "3Z492A".

Go to one of the many sites and look at the drawings.
